Analyses of non-ferrous metals production, trade and recycling

Signed reports and a fact register, metal flow balances and a register of companies and plants in Europe – centred on Poland and Central Europe, set against world balances. Every fact has an identifier, a source with a reliability class and a permanent address.

One-year balances in tonnes of contained metal: mining, smelting and refining, semi-fabrication, products, in-use stock and scrap – for the EU-27 and selected countries. All analyses follow the same method, so their results are comparable.

Non-ferrous metals companies and plants in Europe – from mines and smelters to rolling mills, foundries and scrap remelters. Each plant has a map position, a link in the value chain and a primary source with a reliability class.

Map of plants in the Companies register Map of plants in Europe – each point is a plant and a brighter glow marks a cluster of plants (plants: 1,581, countries: 37). Most plants: Germany 313, Poland 205, Italy 162.
Point – plant; brighter glow – cluster of plants. The interactive map with filters is in the full register. Base map: Natural Earth (public domain). Location of some plants: © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).

Method and AI note

Principles

Where the numbers come from – register facts by source class

A official statistics, legal act, financial statement
facts: 4,735 · sources: 5
B company report, study group, industry association; flow-analysis balance (relative standard deviation up to 10%)
facts: 193 · sources: 15
C only a model estimate in a flow analysis – with a wide uncertainty range
facts: 1,512 · sources: 20

Every number sourced

Report numbers come from the fact register: each fact has an identifier, unit, period, area and a primary source of class A or B. Flow-analysis numbers come from the reconciled balance; their facts carry a standard deviation, indicators also a 90% interval, and a model estimate is class C.

The author signs

Theses and conclusions are the author's. AI tools calculate, organise and check, but do not formulate theses or approve publications. Each report carries an AI note on its page; the AI note page describes how flow analyses are produced.

Versions and errata

Reports carry a version number, archived versions and a SHA-256 checksum. An approved version is never overwritten – a correction is a new version or an entry in the public errata register. DOIs for flagship reports are in preparation.

Publication series

  • S1 Non-ferrous production monitor · monthly
  • S2 Flagship report · quarterly
  • S3 Producer profile · twice a month
  • S4 Country report · quarterly
  • S5 Data note · 2–4 a month
  • S6 Regulatory note · as legislation requires
  • S7 Method and data · as needed

How an analysis is made: Data from primary sources → fact register (reports) or reconciled balance (flow analyses) → checks and reviews → the author’s theses and approval → version.

Access for AI agents

Reports, flow analyses, company cards and static pages have Markdown versions; reports and company cards also JSON. The fact register, including flow-analysis facts, is available through API v1 (OpenAPI) and an MCP server, with a ready citation.

Flow analyses with an approved version offer their facts as facts.json next to the analysis page, the Companies register a JSON dataset, and new reports and flow analyses Atom and JSON Feed channels.
