The Cologne plant is one of the pillars of European high-voltage cable production; NKT is expanding capacity in response to the German direct-current corridor projects SuedLink and SuedOstLink. Aluminium is the conductor material of onshore cables with the largest cross-sections, where its mass advantage over copper decides laying costs. NKT declares climate targets validated by SBTi and is working to reduce emissions in the metals supply chain, without publishing the secondary aluminium content of the product. The group's order backlog reached record levels in 2024–2026.
